HellaBlack is an interdisciplinary performance event curated by and for Black artists, to amplify the depth of Black artistry, and shine a bright light on the talent of Boston’s Black artists and their communities. Now in its 8th year, HellaBlack is designed to celebrate intersections of Blackness through dance, art, spoken word, and music, dispelling the myth of Blackness as a monolith while inviting audiences of all backgrounds to share in the experience. A signature program at Boston Center for the Arts (BCA), the event is part of BCA’s commitment to advancing race equity.

HellaBlack Vol. 8: Genesis — Curated by Amanda Shea with Associate Curator Alanna Logan, this is the first ever youth edition, featuring artists ages 18–24.— Genesis is rooted in rebirth, growth, and the act of pushing forward in times of change. It asks: what does it mean to begin again? To transform, to emerge, to find the courage to build something new? These artists step into that question, bringing work that reflects evolution, emergence, and becoming.
