Truth or Consequences

Written by Andrew Siañez-De La O
Directed by Jasmine Brooks

BCA Launchpad Resident company, Fresh Ink Theatre, presents TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES, a play confronting loss, grief, and learning where you belong in the world. Written with a distinct sci-fi bent, the show tackles the erasure of non-white/indigenous cultures in the American Southwest and revolves around reassessing the role as a person of color in recognizing the harm being perpetrated in a white institution, even one as otherworldly and alien as can be.

April 30th – May 14th, 2022

Agent Chavez is on her way back to headquarters after losing her partner during a mission gone wrong. Agent Hogan is days away from retiring after twenty-five years of service. And thanks to budget cuts, these two agents from The Bureau of [REDACTED] are going to have to share a dusty motel room in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. But this is no ordinary stopover. As they come to realize The Bureau may have put them directly in harm’s way, these two Agents have to grapple with their darkest memories and deepest regrets if they want to survive the demands of the El Dorado Motel.

Battling cultural erasure both on a grand, mythical scale and the personal, both agents must fight for their lives in a world of always-shifting proportions, expectations, and supernatural creatures, much not unlike our own.
