We opened the Mills Gallery for a pop-up exhibition by our first cohort of BCA Studio Residency artists…
Inaugurated in Summer 2021, Boston Center for the Arts’ cross- and multidisciplinary Studio Residency program is designed to foster and support access, equity and experimentation in the arts and in new art being created in Boston. The program provides selected artists with work-only studio space and access to a roster of programs and professional support geared towards nurturing a vibrant and diverse community of artists in Boston.
In this pop-up exhibition, we presented the work of artists who entered the Studio Residency program in 2021. The range of materials, disciplines, and areas of exploration on view reflect the breadth of the artists’ concerns and practices. At the same time, the conversations that emerge among and between their works might be seen as a reflection of the vitality and new ideas that are sparked working in community, where areas of overlap and cross pollination can arise with surprising results.
