Llorona or the Weeping Woman

A play by Gabriela Tovar-Borghini

Follow Lorena Ines Sanchez-Rosalba as she falls into her fate. Falling in love with disconnected third generation Logan Aguilar, Lorena follows him across the border, only to end up in one of the United States most dangerous hands: ICE. A play that questions the burdens of guilt, the failures of immigration and policy, and what it takes to come to terms with the pain of a Latina woman.

Please note any money from these tickets is going directly towards paying the actors and the creative team for their work. If you wish to make any kind of donation in order to help us achieve our goals, feel free to use the pay-what-you-can option to do so. If $15 is not currently financially viable, please use the pay-what-you-can option to give whatever you are able to at this time.

This workshop production offers an exciting glimpse into the evolving world of Llorona or the Weeping Woman. While not a fully produced performance, this presentation incorporates select design elements — including costumes, lighting, and minimal staging — to bring key moments of the play to life.

This play is developed and produced as a part of the BCA Playwright Residency.

The BCA Playwright Residency supports rising playwrights by providing space to rehearse, perform and write a new work. Support is tailored to the selected artist, and includes mentorship, and professional development to create, produce and reach expanded audiences. This program aims to provide a container for playwrights who are invested in developing experimental work that sheds light on underrepresented stories and narratives.
