About #HellaBlack BCA Mixtape Vol. 1:
In celebration of Black History month, BCA aims to amplify to voices of black artists living and working in, or around, Boston. #HellaBlack is a one-night only popup event featuring the work of local black: singers, songwriters, dancers, visual artists and storytellers, including:
- Kadahj Bennett
- Jean Appolon
- Jenny Oliver of Connections Dance Theater
- Ashley Rose
- Black Bear Extraordinaire
- Billy Dean Thomas
- Actors’ Shakespeare Project
- Melissa Alexis of Cultural Fabric
The performances will range from musical selections to poetry to dance and storytelling.
Zainab Sumu Primitive Modern will also host a pop-up shop at #HellaBlack!
Currently, Black History Month programming in our corner of the South End is limited. The BCA is well poised to engage millennials of color by hosting events featuring black artist/activists. The Black History Month theme for 2019 is Black Migrations – http://bit.ly/2Ei1ZeM.
