Join us for a documentary film screening and community conversation about the movement against Proyecto ESENCIA in Cabo Rojo and the broader fight for environmental justice organizing in Puerto Rico.Filmmaker and community organizer Gabo Ramos will join us to share the story of this struggle, discuss what comes next, and explore how we can all get involved in protecting Puerto Rico’s communities, land, and future.

The Essence of the Conflict, a documentary by Gabo Ramos, offers an intimate look at the environmental and community movement defending the lands, coastline, and natural resources of Cabo Rojo against the Esencia mega-development. Through the voices of those on the front lines of the struggle, the film explores the tensions between development, conservation, and the right of communities to shape the future of their own territory. More than a portrait of conflict, the film captures the identity, sense of belonging, and resilience that have transformed the defense of Cabo Rojo into a collective movement.
