Yolanda He Yang

Yolanda He Yang is a Chinese-born, Boston-based installation and performance artist working across studio and public spaces. She holds an MFA in Sculpture from Boston University and is the recipient of numerous awards and residencies, including the Boston Center for the Arts Studio Residency (2025–2028), RAIR in Philadelphia (2025), and a self-directed Artist Residency in Cairo (2024).

Yang has received support from the The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, City of Boston’s Opportunity Fund, the Creative Advocacy Fellowship from MASSCreative, Erin Becker Fund from CAA and the Public Art Program at the Brookline Arts Center (2023).

Her work has been exhibited in both traditional and unconventional settings, including The Rose Kennedy Greenway, Harvard Square, and Dharavi in Mumbai, as well as in group exhibitions and solo performances at Flux Factory (NYC), Vox Populi (Philadelphia), Gallery 263, Vivid Oblivion (Cambridge), Wind H Art Center and MG Space (Beijing), among others.

She is the founder of Behind VA (Visitor Assistants) Shadows (2021–present), a socially engaged project centering the voices of working artists in museum front-of-house roles.

Her work has been featured in ARTnews, The Boston Globe, WBUR, Boston Art Review, Impulse Magazine, and SaboArts Magazine.

Project Statement

During her BCA residency, Yolanda will continue developing her performance and installation series while be in preparation for her upcoming solo shows in Boston and Philadelphia.
