Project Description

Victoria Lynn Awkward, director of VLA DANCE, believes dance is uniquely positioned to help people slow down and connect with self, with others and with the world around us. She uses her work as a tool to empower and advocate for herself and her communities.

In the Space Between, is a call to action to reflect on our personal relation to identity politics within our spheres of influences and communities. By focusing on the space between a person’s reality and their wildest dreams, this project will reveal a dream where people of color can freely be. The process will be based in text analysis and introspection for collaborators and artists. The performance will urge audience-members to examine their own lives, to consider the role of identity in action.
