Artist Statement

I am a photographer, printmaker and book artist, and formerly, a fiber artist. Much of the imagery in my photographs, woodcuts and monotype prints is derived from the landscape and plant forms, and some are inspired by political concerns. My artist books, some three-dimensional, use photographs and woodblock prints. All have images accompanied by text and deal with nature and autobiographical and political issues. After receiving my MFA from Syracuse University, I held a tenured position in the Art Department at Southern Illinois University. I have also taught at Wentworth Institute and Wheelock College, now part of Boston University. I have had artist residencies at Acadia National Park, Dorset House in Vermont, and at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. My work can be found in a number of collections, including: The Art Institute of Chicago, Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Bioengineering, the Boston Public Library, Congregation Beth El in Sudbury, The Standard Club of Detroit, The Federal Reserve Bank of Memphis and Fidelity Investments.
