Isvel Bello

2021-2022 Studio Resident

Isvel Bello is a Cuban American artist with a background as a dancer and choreographer. He received his bachelor’s degree in Contemporary Dance from The Higher Institue of Art (ISA) and is a graduate from The National School of Dance (ENA), both located in Havana. He was a former dancer at Compañía Danza Espiral and MalPaso Dance Company among other independent and experimental projects.

His solo performance Tokonoma was awarded with The Critics Award in the National Competition of Solamente Solos and with the Ramiro Guerra Award, in Cuba. He has worked with Cuban choreographers such as Liliam Padrón and Osnel Delgado, among other American choreographers such as Ronal K. Brown, Trey McIntyre, Rosi Herrera (Cuban American), Rena Butler, and Relinde Moors from the Netherlands. Isvel has performed at several dance festivals around the world such at in The Netherlands, Mexico, Ecuador, France, Venezuela, Martinique, Canada, USA, as well as at the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) Boston, The Joyce Theater in New York, and at Ted Shawn Theatre at the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival in Massachusetts.

He became a resident artist at BCA Studio Residency in the summer of 2021. Isvel is currently a core member and a dancer with Boston Dance Theater (BDT).
