Niiksokowaiks (nsikso’kowaiks & nikso’kowaiksi) in Blackfoot language refers to “my relatives,” “my relations,” “my extended family.” Grounded in Aamskapi Pikuni & Siksikaitsitapi ways of knowing, this solo dance work investigates familial lineage, dispossession, embodied histories, and relationships to land and the more than human.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

E.Macias (Amskapi Pikuni/Blackfeet & A’aninin/GrosVentre) is a dance maker, dance scholar, and postdoctoral fellow through the Department of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Brandeis University. Macias holds a PhD in Critical Dance Studies from the University of California, Riverside, and a BFA in Dance with a Modern Emphasis from Utah Valley University. As a multidisciplinary dancer and dance maker, her work investigates mixed familial lineage, embodied histories, relationships to land and the more than human. Macias centers Siksikaitsitapi ways of knowing with a specific interest in enacting meaningful relationships to place and activating communities through dance. She has performed and shared dance with communities across Northern and Southern California, Utah, Massachusetts, and Vancouver BC. She has worked with Native Indigenous communities including: Sherman Indian High School in Riverside CA, Native American Student Programs at UCR, the Gathering of the Tribes Summer Residential Program at UCR, Title VI Lil Feathers program in UT, Native American Health Center San Francisco CA, and Ohketeau Cultural Center in MA.
