Sleeping Weazel is an artist-led company run by two playwrights, a director, and a
visual artist/communications specialist. Together they create and produce bold,
multimedia theatre and hybrid performance with social justice ideals. Celebrating the
ridiculous, the sublime, and the earth-shattering, Sleeping Weazel’s aim is to cross the
boundaries of popular and high art, and to collaborate with artists of diverse
generations, identities, abilities, and cultures, working in various genres. Since 2012 the
company has premiered 20 productions of original works in Boston, winning two Elliot
Norton Awards for Outstanding Production/Small Theatre for The Audacity: Women
Speak (2019) and 3/Fifths’ Trapped in a Traveling Minstrel Show (2017). Sleeping
Weazel continues to expand the scope of art forms and collaborators as the team
carries on with “making different possible.”

Sleeping Weazel’s plans for the Launchpad Residency include creating and producing
Boston homegrown hybrid performance works, multi-genre cabarets, continuing
collaborations with Peter DiMuro/Public Displays of Motion, new collaborations with
puppeteers, performers, and musicians, and a series of art making and writing
workshops. With the BCA’s support, the Sleeping Weazel team is moving full-steam
ahead on artistic growth and envisioning the next phase of the company’s evolution.
